What is included?

  • Lipoprotein(a), also called Lp(a)
  • Lipid panel
  • Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP)
  • Complete blood count with differential

A focused starting point for a conversation about inherited heart risk. It does not include an ApoB test or imaging, and it cannot predict whether or when an individual will have a heart attack.

A more informed choice

Your questions,
answered.

What does a lipoprotein(a) test show?

Lp(a) is a cholesterol-carrying particle whose level is strongly influenced by genetics. A blood test can add information about inherited cardiovascular risk that a standard lipid panel does not separately measure.

When might I consider this package?

A close relative with early heart disease, a known elevated Lp(a) result in the family, or a clinician’s recommendation can be reasons to discuss testing. Bring the age and type of your relative’s heart condition, plus your previous cholesterol results, to the review.

Can food changes lower Lp(a)?

Lp(a) is largely inherited, so it should not be treated as a score for how well you eat. Nutrition remains relevant to your overall cardiovascular health and other lipid measures. Knowing which marker you are addressing helps you and your clinician set realistic goals.

How is Lp(a) different from ApoB?

They answer related but different questions. Lp(a) measures a specific inherited risk marker; ApoB adds a view of atherogenic particle burden. This package includes Lp(a), not a separate ApoB measurement. Compare our ApoB page if that is the test your clinician requested.

Is $125 the cost of the Lp(a) test alone?

The price covers the full package: Lp(a), a lipid panel, CMP and CBC with differential. Quest blood collection is included. The exact checkout package is “Heart Disease Runs in My Family,” so you can recognize it when you continue.
