Food Noise Nutrition Therapy

Who this is for

Food noise describes persistent, unwanted thoughts about food that take up mental space or interrupt daily life. It may feel like repeatedly planning what to eat, replaying eating decisions, or finding it difficult to focus because thoughts about food keep returning.

Our Registered Dietitians provide holistic, trauma-informed nutrition therapy for people seeking support with these experiences. Together, we explore your eating patterns, health history, and relationship with food through our Psychonutrition approach.

What the body is doing

Appetite and thoughts about food reflect a complex mix of physical needs, learned patterns, emotions, and surroundings. Research on food noise is still developing, and your experience deserves an individualized assessment.

Your dietitian explores meal timing, whether you are getting enough nourishment, food rules, sleep, stress, medications, and situations that draw your attention toward food.

Interoception and hunger cues can offer additional information about your internal experience. We consider these signals alongside your nutritional needs, daily routines, and personal history.

What a visit covers

Your first visit explores when food thoughts become most disruptive, what eating looks like throughout your day, and what you have already tried. There is room to discuss cravings, food anxiety, body image, medications, and the practical challenges of feeding yourself.

Together, you and your dietitian develop manageable next steps. These may include more consistent nourishment, satisfying meals and snacks, greater flexibility around food, and ways to respond to body cues.

Care can also address related nutrition concerns, including binge and emotional eating, menopause, and PCOS. Follow-up visits provide space to review your experience and adjust your plan.
